Selection of Inverter Frequency for Commercial Refrigerators without Indoor Information

- A typical commercial refrigerator consists of multiple indoor units and a single outdoor unit. Recent application of inverter technology
has greatly improved the performance and reliability of these systems by reducing power consumption and unnecessary on and off operation of the compressor. This requires information from indoor units including indoor units’ current and target temperatures. In many cases, however, inverter-type outdoor units may not have this kind of information due to incompatibility with indoor units. To take advantage of inverter technology even without indoor information, this paper focuses on two topics: detection of changes in indoor units’ refrigerating loads and selection of inverter frequency for constant speed operation. Results of this research will be a stepping stone for developing an algorithm for controlling inverter frequency without indoor information.
